Monkey's First Few Days

While she was perfect to us, Merrie did have some health issues in the beginning.  Because she came out so fast, she had trouble breathing and needed to be put on oxygen, which left her in the nursery for 24 hours, with a plastic bowl over her head to help her breath.  She also had a feeding tube.  I was able to hold her while they cleaned me up, for a couple seconds and Thomas held her for longer, but I didn't hold her clean until she was over a day old.
The whole staff was very nice and kept us very comfortable.  Thomas slept in the hospital the first night, but then went home each day after.
On Sunday, I was able to hold my baby for real and bond...awesome feeling.
I also spent some time with Merrie and the lactation consultant and spent a while getting used to nursing.  Because my supply wasn't quite in yet, they loaned me a pump to help out.
There was a lot of paperwork to fill out, that had been "looked over" because of the quick labor, but mostly those first few days were feeding and sleeping.  Merrie had to spend a lot of time in the nursery on oxygen, and then she had to be put under the lights because they thought she was jaundiced.

In all, we spent 3 full days in the hospital - leaving on Wednesday the 5th.  Emily, Pastor and Yoli all stopped by to visit.  I need to say, Emily was the most amazing friend.  Sticking with me throughout the ENTIRE delivery and visiting almost every day we were in the hospital.
